Mr. Abdon Bayla, Senior Education Program Specialist of DepEd Olongapo, organized a Coordination Meeting with the representative of each private and public schools of Olongapo City to share the ICC events which the students may participate in. In line with engaging more people, they are spearheading the Enviro Songwriting Contest & Noah’s Art : Trash to Art Making Contest. This is a way to raise awareness to the young generation and continue inspiring their love for nature.
The Department of Education is mandated to provide quality, complete basic education that is equitably accessible to all and lay the foundation for lifelong learning and service for the common good. As of June 2015, the Division has 87 public and private pre-elementary, secondary and integrated schools to cater educational services. Mr. Jesse M. Pascasio the Director for Strategic planning & Communications of National Coast Watch Council and Atty. Mark Gamboa from UP Center of Integrative & Development Studies conducted a nationwide consultation regarding Focus Group Discussion on the Philippine National Marine Policy last July 29, 2015 at Emshienell Beach Resort & Event Place in Iba, Zambales. As part of this process, the organizers of the ICC Zambales were requested to attend this Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in order to share best practices with regards to its implementation which can serve as a model in the execution of the Coastal Resource Management Plan 2010-2012 which includes efforts to promote and sustain fishery areas, coastal tourism, and marine environment. The policy's framework covers marine- and ocean-related programs, activities in the country & works on pursuing development programs and activities from mainly land-based to ridge-to-reef approach. On the 19th of September 2015, Let us make history and start a sea of change. #ICCPH #ICCZambales In observance to the National Disaster Consciousness Month 2015, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), SBMA Ecology, and The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation. collaborated for a "SCUBASURERO", underwater and coastal cleanup last July 25, 2015, in Subic Bay.
The event was graced by Director Josie Timoteo of the Office Of Civil Defense Region 3 and Chairperson of the Disaster Risk Reduction, Management Council Region 3 as the Guest Speaker and Atty. Chot Kabigting for an inspirational message. The cleanup sites were divided along the coastal area of the Central Business District, SBFZ, and Grande Island (designated area of the twenty divers), which amounted to 8 sectors in total. The scuba divers were able to gather several bags of trash ranging from beer bottles, plastics and other debris that's harmful to marine life, while their fellow volunteers on land cleared a substantial amount of trash from the coastlines. Special thanks to Mr. George Ang Dy Pay of Boardwalk Dive Center, Richard Storment and Jimmy Robertson of SCUBA Shack for their generous support! Hats off to Major Vicente Tolentino and Mr. Johnny Co for taking the lead in organizing this event. (Training Rotary's Youth) of Areas 3 & 4 of the Rotaract Clubs of R.I. District 3790 last July 25, 2015.
The Rotary Club has been a source of support to other community service projects. It holds medical and surgical services in the indigenous communities to serve the needy and also offers scholarships to deserving students. There are now over 800 Rotary Clubs in the Philippines, and their members are among the most active when it comes to serving the Filipino community and helping those in need. Congratulations for a remarkable accomplishment, the youth is surely active with their efforts to maintain and preserve our environment. The SCUBASURERO event on July 25, 2015 is in full swing as it aims to enhance the awareness of the community in the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System as mandated by R.A. 10121 and to strengthen public participation and consciousness in Disaster Mitigation through collective efforts. These objectives go hand in hand with the ICC Philippines' vision for trash free seas and getting their community involved for a chance to change behaviors towards waste management.
A final coordination meeting between the organizers and key persons were held at the Lighthouse Marina Resort last July 21. Ms.Jozen Curva, Marketing Executive for Lighthouse Marina Resort and Project Manager for ICC Zambales met with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) last July 20, 2015 at the Lighthouse Marina Resort. DENR plans to do an ocular and conduct an Information Education Campaign (IEC) to inform the people of Sampaloc Cove about the Serpent Eagles residing among their community. DENR continues their support for the ICC 2015 campaign by promising to participate in the events to help save our seas.
Subic Bay and Zambales were well represented during the Tara Na Sa Norte Tourism & Travel Fair through the efforts of the Subic Bay HATS Visitors Board, a proud member of the North Philippines Visitors Board, under the tutelage of Manila North Tollways Corporation.
They promoted responsible tourism as well as the annual International Coastal Cleanup Zambales to the public. One of their prime examples of promoting the environment was the group's booth exhibit that was made from recycled materials, which won the "Best Booth" award. |
