The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation together with some friends from the Rotary Club of Subic Bay, Rotary Club of Cubao West, Subic Bay Freeport Chamber of Commerce, Organizers of Giro de Pilipinas, and Networx Jetsport visited Sampaloc Cove to donate food supplies sponsored by Nanofixit, a local manufacturing company in the Freeport, and educational materials sponsored by Kate Careon.
The activity also included a beach and trail clean up. A portion of the beach of the pristine cove are filled with trash washed up on shore. Despite the cleanup efforts, still more trash are left behind. Coves like Sampaloc are also threatened by irresponsible travellers who do not handle trash properly. The LMRLF continues to promote the "Leave No Trace" principles in the by putting signages to remind travellers on how to care for the environment. The purpose of human life besides taking care of our environment is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others. The ICCPH is all about that. Subic Bay is known for its lush virgin forest and pristine beaches. Subic Bay Freeport is the perfect destination to be one with nature. On a wider scale, Department of Tourism (DOT) is positioning the Philippines as a world-class destination with ecotourism as one of its guiding principles.
The importance of ecotourism lies on its ability to help preserve the ecological balance of a growing economic zone and ecotourism site. In order to achieve this you will need to have the support of not just the business owners but also the entire community. The growth of ICC Zambales from merely 30 people back in 2009, to almost 90,000 volunteers last 2015 goes to show that there are people out there who cares. The problem is not about technology nor is it the laws and policies. The real problem is the way people think. We have turned our backs on nature's warning signs. We are totally living in disharmony with the planet and we are paying the price. People need to be aware of the global forces that affect their lives and that will increasingly affect their lives in the future. We believe that our actions are based on our level of awareness. To win this battle to change people's minds and hearts is actually a matter of lifting levels of awareness. ICCPH aims to inspire others to take action and stop the exploitation of our environment. It wants to be a platform for change and solutions. As we celebrate Arbor Day with the 1,239 volunteers last June 25, we are hopeful that together we will be capable of changing this world for the better. Through the support of SBMA Ecology and SBMA Tourism together with the Subic Bay Hotels, Attractions and Tourism Stakeholders Visitors Board, the ICC Zambales will be coming up with ICC Tours to further promote responsible tourism at the same time spread the love for our environment. The tree planting program will be part of the tour package. This particular program will not only give you a great time while giving back to mother nature, but it will also help our Aeta friends with their livelihood. We have identified several activities for the ICC Zamables tours but we are also willing to collaborate with other tour operators nationwide in creating this program that not only supports DOT’s ecotourism campaign but also establish a replicable and sustainable programs that enhances the lives of people and succeeding generations. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) profoundly put in motion it’s 2nd National Integrated Waste Management Exhibition last June 21-24 at the SM Megatrade Halls 1 & 2 and SM Megamall Mandaluyong City. The objective of this activity was to propose efficient tools and solutions to assist on the waste management challenges of national and local shareholders while addressing present and developing environmental problems in the Philippines.
It focused on the significant role from different departments such as environmental discipline, environmental authority and practical development to reduce waste. This exhibit desired to put together shareholders who have the same interest about taking action towards saving our environment. It exhibited areas of community who are representing aggregated waste management concern while promoting feasible growth. Moreover, International Coastal Cleanup Philippines (ICC PH) took part of this event along with all the other inspiring environment devotees such as Nestle with their Compressed Interlocking Bricks which are made from sachets/laminate as fillers wherein tables are also produced and later on donated to local schools, Ecosystem Technologies Inc, with their water treatment solutions, ICTSI Foundation Inc and many more. All of these organizations had their own unique way to work together and make change happen to turn what we call waste into something useful. It is incredible to think that a lot of us still do care and are well aware of what is happening around us. Simple actions like these do make a difference because we believe that as long as there are people willing to make a change, there will be a better tomorrow. Act your part and be involved! Join the ICC movement for a sea of change. For more information please visit www.icc.ph MOU Signing of LDIPH and ICCPH last June 10 at the DENR Office with the Director of National Solid Waste Management Council Mr. Eli Ildefonso. Mr. Dann Diez is representing LDI PH and the founder of Sustainable Energy and Enterprise Development for Communities (SEED4COM). This will help strengthen ICC in the Visayas region since Dann is from Cebu. |
