The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation (LMRLF) met with the Public Affairs Office (PAO) of Olongapo City to discuss initial coordination plans of gathering Local Government Units, The Environmental Sanitation and Management Office (ESMO) and site captains from 2013 for an ICC post report meeting. This will enable the core groups and organizing team to discuss best practices and methods to further improve the upcoming cleanup on September 20.
Mr. Anthony Bayarong of PAO has pledged their support with the public awareness campaign through an LED truck, radio ad, and information dissemination. He also suggested, that the additional participation of ESMO (Environmental Sanitation and Management Office), is essential, to regulate the wastes or debris that will be collected by the volunteers on the actual clean up. The core team expressed their ideas in segregating the wastes that can be sold, from the ones to be discarded. This will enable more government support and sustainability for the campaign. A coordination meeting to gather all previous site captain’s represented by each of the 17 barangays is scheduled at The Lighthouse Marina Resort this week. The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation Team (LMRLF) did a video call meeting with Former President of Earth Day Network, EVP for Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Materials Sustainability (PARMS) and Pres. Elect for Zero Waste Society of the Philippines.
Mr. Bert Guevara has been an integral part of this “movement for change” that the group stands for. He has been supporting the campaign in the last three years. His credibility and expertise on waste management is rooted from his list of achievements. This includes his experience as Barangay Captain of Sun Valley in Paranaque for thirteen years, which he turned into a model barangay in ecological solid waste management. He was also a Representative of National Liga ng mga Barangay and a part of the National Solid Waste Management Commission, a policy-making and oversight body created under R.A. 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act) under the Office of the President and chaired by the DENR Secretary. He will be one of our resource speakers for the upcoming Environmental Summit on September 12-13 in Subic Bay Exhibitions and Convention Center located at the heart of the Freeport Zone. He will tackle waste management handling, coming up with alternative waste programs, and his concept for a Full Waste Recovery and Recycling Program. This is in line with the International Coastal Cleanup campaign that aims to prepare a disaster management plan for Zambales but at the same time encourage people to recognize that the root of this problem is also related to the way humans have exploited the planet. The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation (LMRLF), Ayala Harbor Point, SBMA Ecology Center and Subic Bay Tourism met in preparation of the International Coastal Cleanup on September 20, 2014. The objective of the International Coastal Cleanup has always been to inspire people to change their behaviour towards the environment and take action in protecting it. This year, to make this event more meaningful, the organizing committee is planning to hold an environmental summit on September that aims to unite government leaders and private business in a discussion on how we can all live in a sustainable environment.
This meeting was participated by SBMA Tourism represented by OIC Ms. Jem Camba and Ms. Rackie Delos Reyes, together with the Division Chief of SBMA Ecology Center, Ms. Lillia R. Alcazar with her colleague Ms. Rj Mallari and Ayala Harbor Point Marketing Manager Mr. Argee Gomez, and General Manager Mr. Derrick Manuel. Mr. Zed Avecilla, the Sales and Marketing Manager of Lighthouse Marina Resort and Director of LMRLF, led the discussion and brainstormed with the group. The program entails two days that includes distinguished guest speakers and useful seminars alongside activities directed towards the leaders of the community. With the help of Ayala Harbor Point, the group aims to reach a broader audience. Mr. Avecilla emphasized that local residents and even students, need to build the right intentions for the environment. In doing so, this will also help in promoting the tourism of Zambales, especially Subic Bay as an eco-friendly destination. By tapping influential key persons, they have the ability to bring the campaign down to the household levels, especially the youth, who plays an important role in this campaign. It all comes down to training the next generation. The youth can be honed and shaped into citizens that use the power of their voice to help care for their planet. It’s not just about creating a better world for the children, but making the children better for the world. At the end of the day, PROBLEMS can be turned into OPPORTUNITIES. And as the famous saying goes, “Coming together is just a beginning. Keeping together is a progress and working together is success.” ICC 2013 Documentary ICC 2012 Documentary |
