Tourism is fast emerging as an important revenue generator in the service sector which consists of 54% of the country's GDP.
On the other hand, tourism is also recognized as the 5th biggest polluter worldwide. It is responsible for 5% global CO2 emissions.
The Subic Bay Freeport Zone, located at the crossroad of Zambales and Bataan Province, is one of the Philippine's best ecotourism destinations.
However, like any cities around the world, there are environmental issues that needs to be addressed. Subic Bay is no exemption. But, it is noteworthy to say that more and more people are beginning to take notice of these problems and are taking action. These also includes corporations, organizations, and government agencies. |
In Subic Bay, the Lighthouse Marina Resort, established in 2007, motivated by a genuine sense of moral leadership - a commitment to give something back and to make a difference, has spearheaded the International Coastal Cleanup since 2009.
In 2014, the Lighthouse Legacy Foundation was established and took over the community projects of the resort. It was built out of the passion to help the people around us and be a movement for change for a great future. Its mission was to establish replicable and sustainable programs that enhances the lives of people and succeeding generations. It was known for its active support for the environment, an advocate for responsible tourism and promotion of livelihood programs.
The foundation also aims to support a change in policies, business practices and consumer behavior towards a more sustainable community that can contribute effectively to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a vision for people and planet to be achieved through partnership and solidarity. |
