The ocean sustains us with the basic elements of life—it produces half of the oxygen in the air we breathe, and it is an essential part of the water cycle, helping to provide the water we drink.
The Lighthouse Marina Resort team continues its battle for trash free seas, by doing a beach cleanup once a week starting October 28, 2015. Whether we live on a beach or hundreds of miles from the coastline, we all have a profound stake in an ocean that is healthy and abundant. Cruz Zambales and they are still surrounded by thick mud on their street & inside their homes after Typhoon Lando hit there Sunday morning local time. The Weather Channel calls it "a slow motion disaster." The Lighthouse Marina Resort team interacted with the families and distributed relief goods to families displaced by Typhoon Lando at Bayto Sta. Cruz last October 25, 2015. The people accepted the gifts with a smile on their faces, and hopeful hearts. Casa San Miguel, a community-based school in Barrio San Miguel, San Antonio, Zambales, that harnesses arts and culture as a medium for community development. Owned and managed by renowned violinist Alfonso “Coke” Bolipata, Casa San Miguel was first established in 1993 as a means of uplifting the spirits of the region, which was then just recovering from the devastation brought by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. This project obtains to nurture the mind of the young generation about the issues revolving around waste and its effects on sea life as well as the communities that rely on the ocean as part of their habitat. The structure was then “skinned” using nearby 2000 recycled soda bottle and mineral water. The sculpture was further developed by making it a light piece for nighttime viewing attained by suspending a row black light in the shark's belly that reveal the iconic spots for which it is known, as well as a rotating disco ball to give the sculpture a sense of motion. REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, three great ways we can eliminate waste and protect our environment. A simple message that we must maintain a reverence for all life, and that we humans are part of the problem. If we all follow, it will drastically reduce the threat faced by hundreds of other creatures.
