As known by everyone in our country by now, Typhoon Yolanda has displaced thousands of people, destroyed the city of Tacloban and even killed plenty of our countrymen due to this storm.
This occurrence led our team to stem out from CSR activities and begin the Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation (LMRLF). We are in partnership with other civic groups and most recently, a U.K. based non profit organization named ALALA (All for love, love for all) whose advocacy is to help orphaned children and widows from natural disasters. Together, we are working towards a long-term rehabilitation and rebuilding program called “Operation: H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Progress & Excel)". LMRLF Director, JR Avecilla together with ALALA Founder Christine Le Nahedic took a trip to Tacloban City last May 13-15, 2014. Senior Pastor of Victory Christian Fellowship Tacloban, Eugene Ramirez welcomed them into his home and guided them as they distributed relief goods and connected with the people left behind. The aftermath has taught us that with our current situation on climate change, this is bound to happen again. The environmental challenges we now face are a result of our actions. If we unite, we can create more awareness by joining the largest volunteer efforts in the world for ocean preservation: The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) on September 20, 2014. Through the data collected from Ocean Conservancy’s annual cleanup, innovations to develop materials, manufacturing processes and products that will interrupt the cycle of pollution has been made. Together, we can educate the public and empower citizens to take better care of our planet. |
