The gentlemen immediately proceeded to a ribbon cutting for the ICC Exhibit, which includes module displays to expand its presence in order to educate the public about the largest volunteer efforts in the world for ocean preservation. The modules contains infographics with facts and reminders for ICCZ on September 20, 2014. This environmental event is celebrated every 3rd Saturday of September and joined by 650,000 people across the globe. The Philippines is the second largest participating country in the world with 182,408 volunteers in 2013. Among other activities was a short program inside Cinema 3 which included a film viewing of the ICC 2012 and 2013 documentaries. This was followed by short reports and speeches from representatives of involved government units and organizations. “Zambales is come up to its level, in fact no. 2 for the first time in the whole Philippines," stated by ICC Philippines Coordinator, Commodore Gerry Reyes of PCGA. He also said, “One concern we have to think about is the micro plastics or the POPs (persistent organic pollutants), which is the most scary part of the debris problem. We've been finding out in most of the marine researches, the small fish/larvae, have ingested plastic in their stomachs.” Vice Governor Ramon Lacbain also announced, “Our participation for the ICC is not just one day and we want to continue this. This coming Monday, I will submit a resolution in our province to declare every 3rd Saturday of September is ICC Day and every day is a cleanup day in Zambales.” During the program, attendees were tasked to save the date for September 12-13, 2014 for an Environmental Summit to be held in Subic Bay Exhibitions and Convention Center (SBECC) in Subic Bay Freeport Zone. This two day event aims to have a meaningful dialogue that will involve the entire LGU of Zambales including Olongapo City and Subic Bay Freeport Zone together with business owners to discuss the current issues of the environment at the same time solutions on how to tackle them. Mr. Zedrik Avecilla, the Director of LMRLF and Sales and Marketing of The Lighthouse Marina Resort, Ms. Jozen Curva, the Project Manager of LMRLF and Senior Marketing Executive of The Lighthouse Marina Resort together with Circulations Supervisors of Manila Bulletin, Mr. Sonny Baloso, and Mr. Alberto Balanag. The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation (LMFR) had a meaningful conversation with representatives of hotels and tourism stakeholders in going full speed with an association and strengthen their involvement for the ICC.
By means of their define drive to strive with the campaign, they agreed to partially impart themselves and be one to make the difference. The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation (LMRLF) met with Father John Mara, Director of Social Action Center of Zambales for plans of an information drive and community mobilization leading up to the International Coastal Cleanup in September.
With Father John Mara’s great affinity towards the environment, having no doubts, he immediately agreed to be a part of this wave for change. He will give a list of schools that are in need of a building rehabilitation, for a site ocular under the guidance of Engr. Eric Raymundo, Consultant for the Sustainable Tourism Program of TIGRA (Transnational Institute for Grassroots Research & Action NGO). These schools will undergo a selection process to be selected as the “model project” in which the community will be gathered to work together in the energy efficiency improvements as well as beautification through the techniques that will be taught by Engr. Raymundo. Ms. Jozen Curva, the Project Manager of The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation and Mr. Christoffer Dumlao, the Creative Director of Wondertower Creative encouraged the local residents of Olongapo City and SBMA to impart themselves as volunteers in the International Coastal Cleanup, this 20th of September.
After a long week of meetings in Manila with ICC partners and organizations, the gentlemen of the Lighthouse Legacy Foundation spent the Sunday afternoon at the Back Alley Barbershop in Central Business District, Makati for a shave and well-deserved pampering while discussing plans for the upcoming film workshop with well-renowned Philippine and international wedding filmmaker, Jason Magbanua.
For 14 years, Jason has been pioneering wedding films in the Philippines and is unequivocally considered as THE top videographer in the country, not just among his clients, but among his peers in the industry as well. Moreover, he has continuously and graciously shared his knowledge of storytelling through numerous workshops around the world, inspiring the next crop of young filmmakers to tell their stories through film. The passion for change was shared between Zedrik Avecilla (Marketing Director of LMRLF) and Jason, reminiscing back to their college days as wide-eyed students looking to “make a dent in the universe”. Now, both in their thirties, they seek the opportunities to make that dent with the talents and resources they were both blessed with. Along with good friend and fellow filmmaker Christoffer Dumlao (also the Creative Director of Wondertower Creative and Lighthouse Marina Resort), Jason Magbanua has offered his support in the cause for the International Coastal Cleanup. They will all be teaming up to conduct a (soon-to-be-announced) film workshop/contest sponsored by Harbor Point (Ayala Mall) in September. The workshop will aim to inspire young filmmakers to share their own stories of “change" through the power of storytelling. Through this partnership and participation of the film community, our voice will be heard even louder! Together with the Lighthouse Marina Resort Foundation, Ms. Myra Gavino extended her support all the way to Manila, to give suggestions with regards to intensifying the campaign. During the day, she even expressed more of her ideas in creating more awareness to definitely grab the attention of the local community.
